License and Miscellaneous

License & Permit OR Miscellaneous Application SB-209

Certificate of Title - Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa SB-211

Required by states, cities and other licensing authorities from holders of licenses to engage in certain businesses or permits to exercise certain privileges.

Desirability

This is a desirable class. Most of the smaller license bonds guarantee simply that the principal will conduct his/her business in accordance with the applicable law, ordinance or regulations.

Some bonds that are required by laws impose upon the licensee and his/her surety a liability greater than simple compliance with the law. Also, there may be certain hazards inherent in the particular business engaged in by the principal. Liability under such bonds should be analyzed and the bond should be underwritten accordingly.

Bonds Forms

A special bond form sometimes is required to support each type of license or permit. In all such cases, the blank bond form should be submitted with the application or order blank. We have available general use bonds forms which may be used when acceptable to the Obligee.

Sources of Business

From your City or Town Clerk or County Clerk's office, obtain copies of bonds required under your city ordinances or county regulations from: Plumbers, Electricians, Sewer Tappers, Second-hand Dealers, Drain Layers, etc.

From the appropriate state official, obtain copies of bonds required under your state laws, such as: Motor Vehicle Dealer Bonds; Contractors; Real Estate Brokers; etc. or ask the bond department for this information.

Miscellaneous Bonds

This classification is a "catch-all" for bonds that do not fit into any of the main classes.

Underwriting considerations vary too widely to make possible any blanket rules, however for most types the financial condition and credit record of the applicant is of primary importance in determining the acceptability of a particular bond.
