Each year, fireworks cause an average of 12,000 fires which include 2,000 structure fires, 300 vehicle fires, and almost 10,000 outside and other fires. These incidents caused 9 deaths, 29 civilian injuries, and an average of $59 million in direct property damage.

Precautions are necessary to keep workers, spectators, and property safe during fireworks handling and display.

  • Ensure proper separation distance from nearby combustible structures and overhead obstructions (trees, power lines, etc.).
  • Never put on displays during drought conditions.
  • If hiring a licensed contractor to put on display, ensure adequate risk transfer methods are in place.
  • Ensure an adequate number of fire extinguishers are in place near the display in the event of a fire.
