You’ve seen the images–even if it’s only in commercials. An inspector sweeps a camera across a facility, identifying in a splash of red and orange where an electrical fire has begun. But is the technology of thermal imaging a true necessity for your business?

What is thermal imaging?

Thermal imaging is not as complicated as it seems. By converting infrared (IR) radiation (heat) into images a pattern of color is formed. This image, as viewed by a thermal camera, shows the distribution of temperature differences within a building or piece of equipment.

Using thermal imaging to inspect electrical and mechanical equipment has proven to reduce unscheduled downtime due to equipment failures. This non-invasive approach also significantly reduces the risk of electrical fire.

Purposes and Benefits of Thermal Imaging for Your Business

Manual equipment inspections are costly and time-consuming. Thermal imaging services, however, are concise and preventative. All facilities have issues that could benefit from regular thermal imaging inspections that check the status of equipment and identify potential hazards.

Other thermal imaging benefits include:

  • Understanding the efficiency of power usage
  • Extending the useful life of equipment
  • Providing clear mitigation solutions
  • Preventing downtime and business interruptions due to unforeseen/emergency situations

Does your business need thermal imaging services?

National Fire Protection Association NFPA 70B recommends all electrical equipment have an annual infrared thermographic inspection. Some equipment might require more frequent inspections.

As we work together to build a preventative maintenance program for your business, an infrared thermal imaging program is highly encouraged. Let us share our insights into the benefits of infrared thermography with you.

How can we help?

We recommend incorporating Infrared Electrical Inspection services for your overall Electrical Maintenance program. This proactive approach enables you to check electrical equipment status and identify potential issues.

The CWG Risk Services Team will help your staff evaluate the electrical hazards in your workplace that could lead to injury, fire, property and equipment damage, and production downtime.

At CWG, we want to help our clients achieve their safety goals. This is why four of our own staff members are now Level I certified Thermographers. Let us show you how thermal imaging can create a better overall picture for your business.
