Companies have experienced talent shortages across industries, causing concern for many. In recent times, we have seen baby boomers retiring and young professionals changing jobs and careers more frequently. Employees and employers are adapting to the ever-changing climate of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is critical to have teams in person to be conducive to collaboration and to experience the culture of CWG. We provide flexible workspaces to suit various needs and encourage collaboration while also supporting individuals working independently.

Talent Retention

As we focus on retaining our talent, employers must develop a clear talent management strategy to create a workplace culture people enjoy. This helps to ensure that employees feel valued and appreciated, increasing the likelihood of retention.

…conducting stay interviews is a great way to connect with our team members.

For example, spending time with and listening to your team to exchange feedback can produce fruitful conversations and help to identify strengths and areas for improvement within the team. We have found that conducting stay interviews is a great way to connect with our team members. We understand what their career aspirations are and how we can assist in their drive to succeed.

Another key factor in this equation is equitable pay and benefits. At CWG, we offer competitive compensation and benefits. We actively make adjustments to remain competitive within the industry and marketplace. This is a constant evolution in our ever-changing work environment.

Talent Upskill

At CWG, we choose to invest time and resources into developing our teams through educational opportunities.  This not only gives us a competitive advantage within our market but also aids in staying relevant in our field of expertise. We accomplish this through innovation, collaboration, and education among our teams.

Utilizing subject matter experts to help train our team raises the performance bar. Most of our top talent are looking to grow in their careers and be leaders in their field. Our employees take ownership of their professional development as our leaders guide them to subject matter experts for mentoring and coaching. The ability to tap into resources within the W.R. Berkley Corporation provides our employees with unlimited access to talent within the insurance industry.

How to Build a Talent Pipeline

Networking and branding are critical in building a talent pipeline, so I recommend putting your talent management strategy to work. Build relationships with faculty and staff at your local universities and host outreach programs to bring awareness to job opportunities.

Also, ask your network to keep your company and needs in mind when talking with students starting out on the job market. We look for skill sets necessary to be successful, including relationship building, networking, and demonstrating a competitive edge.

Finally, remember that your current top talent is your best referral source. You don’t get referrals of top talent unless you have something great to offer. If our employees are not happy, we cannot expect them to share career opportunities with their network. Building a sustainable, supportive, respectful, and trustworthy work environment takes time and a lot of effort, but is very rewarding.

As a customer-centric company, CWG is committed to making our customers happy. We do our best to meet their requests and look at ways to negotiate differing points of view so we can continue working with them. Why wouldn’t we do the same for our employees?

At Continental Western Group, we’re committed to helping businesses throughout the Midwest thrive. We understand the importance of growing and developing leadership skills in every organization.

In the CWG Greater Leadership Series, CWG leaders will share personal stories and insights that have helped them along the path to leadership success.

With CWG, not only can you get coverage tailored to your needs, but you will also receive support from an expert risk management team and dedicated claims professionals to guide you through the claim process in the event of a loss.
