What Gives Power to Analytics?

The single most important factor powering analytics is people. At CWG, we understand the potential power of analytics and the importance of a people-centric approach within the commercial insurance industry.

At its foundation, analytics is about deriving value from data. Data and analytics are used to ensure better outcomes for all of our customers to help them reach their goals. Whether you are an underwriter, a risk manager, a claims adjuster, an agent, a producer, a business owner, an actuary, a data scientist, etc., you will rely on extracting value from data to serve your customers to the best of your ability.

Analytics at Work

Think of data as the crude oil of analytics. It needs to be processed in order to derive value and be useful to its consumers. Analytics can be descriptive (what happened?), diagnostic (why did it happen?), predictive (what will happen?), or prescriptive (what should we do?), making the practice even more beneficial.

Advanced analytics capabilities offer deeper insights, influence informed decisions, and encourage intentional actions that lead to superior outcomes. Data leads to analytics, analytics lead to insights, and insights lead to actions.

This process supports “augmented intelligence,” which allows people to do more than they are capable of doing on their own. Visual analytics, predictive models, and data-driven business tools help our business partners to better serve our customers.

Innovation Through Analytics

With the continuing development in technology and data science, consumers experience the benefits of analytics – such as online shopping recommendations – and are increasingly aware of how data is used. Keeping this in mind while working with data analytics, we ultimately want to benefit our customers to drive a better customer experience.

Analytics is about solving problems in new and different ways. Computers are more powerful at processing significant amounts of data than humans, so we have the ability to leverage technology to solve problems with more efficiency and less bias, ultimately benefiting our customers.

“Innovation doesn’t occur overnight, and it isn’t possible without people.”

As with anything in life, there can be hesitancy when adopting changes within the field of data analytics. So, combining human intelligence with computer power helps us work toward taking full advantage of opportunities to progress within our industry. This progression guides us toward innovation.

Innovation doesn’t occur overnight, and it isn’t possible without people. Even with the significant increase in data and its sources, as well as advancements in technology, people are still at the core of analytics.
